Where to Register Your Dog in Western PA

June 12, 2017

If you've driven through the area lately, you've likely noticed signs telling you to license your dog. Or possibly, you got a knock on your door from county officials looking for your dog's rabies tags and license. With Summer in full swing, fireworks bound to go off at any moment, and more and more people outside, it's never more important to have your dog licensed, with tags displayed, than right now.

In the scary event that yours is startled and runs off, or accidentally wanders out of your sight, licensing your dog and attaching the tag to their collar allows the two of you to be reunited quickly. License tags have numbers on them matching your registration, meaning the person who finds your pup can call the county and you can be notified. Aside from that, if the dog-catcher in the area finds your lost dog, they are required to call you and notify you. Most importantly, it's the law and it's very inexpensive to do (no more than $10). And if that doesn't persuade you, then maybe the $300 fine if your dog is found unlicensed will. If your dog is not licensed yet, regardless of it's age or breed, it's crucial that you visit one of the websites below, depending on your county, and register your pup immediately.

Choose your county from below and follow the links to the treasurer's website. Here you can quickly and easily register your dog and get the license sent to you within just a couple days. You always have the option of going into the county treasurer's office, listed below, and filling out the form in person, if that suits you best.

If you don't see your county listed, and are in the state of Pennsylvania, click this link here, and find your county. Don't take chances with your dog's life. It is so very important to license your dog and get him or her back into your arms as fast as possible, in the event that they run off.
